FT Instructors –Lexington, Kentucky

CKRH, a very diverse equine assisted activities and therapies center, located in the Horse Capital of the World at the Kentucky Horse Park has two immediate openings: 1) a full-time instructor to lead therapeutic riding services; 2) a full-time instructor to teach equine classes in our public high school program.  Full job overviews and qualifications may be found at www.ckrh.org/employment. All candidates must possess a passion for partnering with horses to help people improve their quality of life.

CKRH offers very diverse programming for children and adults. Programs include therapeutic riding for children and adults, hippotherapy and mental health and learning. Our model is to partner with other community organizations to help them serve their population. A few examples of our community partnerships are:

  • Fayette County Public Schools – CKRH is home to a full time public school program, The Stables.
  • Cardinal Hill HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital – Weekly physical and occupational therapy sessions are offered.
  • Individuals from St. James Place, Veterans Court, Kentucky National Guard and families from the community are enrolled in our military programs.
  • Bluegrass Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass) – Children who have lost a loved one learn skills to live with grief.
  • EasterSeals Cardinal Hill – Families have the option to choose an all-day full summer program for their children with disabilities.


  • A working knowledge of human disabilities
  • An understanding of the biomechanics and kinesiology of both the human and the horse
  • An ability to evaluate riders and potential riders
  • An ability to design appropriate lessons that are physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally stimulating
  • An ability to professionally teach and work with therapy horses
  • An ability to teach and implement natural horsemanship philosophies
  • An ability to condition and prepare horses for lessons, both from the ground and mounted


  • Highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Excellent communication skills -- written and oral;
  • People management and training skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others;
  • Computer skills;


  • Self-motivated and able to manage time.
  • Must be able to operate facility vehicles and equipment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a current Kentucky State driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform hard physical labor for up to eight hours daily


Minimum of five years’ experience teaching equine lessons.  Proven experience as a teacher, trainer or coach of people more specifically with individuals with special needs.  General knowledge and experience with horse care.


CKRH offers a highly completive salary and benefits package that is above industry standard in many states.  Salary will be determined by candidate’s level of experience, skill and ability.
